Partner Exercises

For each belt level, a student must perform a series of exercises with another student in which they simulate attacks and defenses against each other.

โ€‹

If the student has a solid color belt rank (a "low belt"), then they will be performing "one-steps." The attacker only attacks once and then the defender performs the listed defense.

โ€‹

If the student has a black stripe color belt rank (a "high belt"), then they will be performing Techniques and Exercises. For the Techniques portion, the attacker executes a kick and the defender does a block or evade followed by a counter-attack. The attacker then executes a kick on the other side which the defender likewise responds to. At this point, the attacker and defender switch roles and perform the attacks and defenses again.

โ€‹

For the Exercises portion, the both partners kihap, then run through the entire listed series without stopping until the end. There are blocks and evasions but no counter-attacks.

White Belt One-Steps

The first series of one steps. For each of these, the attacker steps forward and punches with the front hand.

Low Yellow Belt One-Steps

As with the white belt one-steps, the is always a step forward to punch with the front hand. This time, the defenses are more aggressive since they generally move in towards the attacker rather than backing away.

High Yellow Belt Techniques and Exercises

The first set of techniques and exercises. This is the only one which employs the inside crescent kick.

Low Green Belt One-Steps

Unlike previous one-steps, these exercises have a different attack each time. Students will practice grappling techniques with these exercises.

High Green Belt Techniques and Exercises

For these and all future techniques and exercises, the attacker will be using a sliding kick. The order of kicks will always be front, roundhouse, side, hook. For the first two techniques, the defender will slide back. For the third and fourth techniques, the defender will step 45ยบ to the open side.

Low Blue Belt One-Steps

Similar to the green belt one-steps, these have a different attack each time. The grapple techniques taught here are more advanced.

High Blue Belt Techniques and Exercises

For the first two techniques, the defender will step at an angle to the attacker's open side (similarly to the latter half of the high green belt techniques). For the third and fourth techniques, the defender will slide to the attacker's back side.
