Low Brown Belt Knife Defenses
This is the first time that the student learns to defend against knife attacks. These all involve dodging the knife attack and then counter-attacking with a kick.
Attack #1
Step forward slashing diagonally downward and across.
Defense #1
Dodge to the outside away from the knife slash.
Side kick to the attacker's knee.
Attack #2
Step forward slashing horizontally at waist level.
Defense #2
Hop backwards out of range of the attack.
Front kick to the attacker's knee.
Attack #3
Step forward with a stabbing attack.
Defense #3
Dodge to the outside.
Roundhouse kick to the attacker's knee.
Attack #4
From behind the defender, place one hand on the shoulder and touch the point of the knife to the defender's back.
Defense #4
Step forward and away from the knife point (same side as attacker's knife hand).
Side kick backwards into the attacker (any target is acceptable).
Attack #5
Step forward and attack downward with a reverse grip on the knife (ice pick attack).
Defense #5
Dodge to the inside of the attack, out of range of the knife point.
Roundhouse kick to the attacker's knee.
