High Red Belt Techniques and Exercises

The Techniques section does not follow a particular pattern which makes it more difficult to memorize. Some of the responses are similar to the previous Techniques from earlier belt levels.

Techniques

The attack is always a back leg kick followed by sliding kick.

  1. Attack: Back-leg front kick; sliding front kick.
    Defense: Step back and low block, then front leg front kick; slide back and low block, then front leg front kick and back hand punch.

  2. Attack: Back-leg roundhouse kick; sliding roundhouse kick.
    Defense: Step back and double forearm block, then front leg roundhouse kick; step 45 degrees to the open side, front leg roundhouse kick and back hand punch.

  3. Attack: Turning side kick; sliding side kick.
    Defense: Step back and low sweeping block to the side, front leg side kick; slide back and low sweeping block to the side, turning side kick followed by back hand punch; jump switch to end.

  4. Attack: Turning hook kick; sliding hook kick
    Defense: Step back and duck, front leg hook kick; step 45 degrees to the open side, front leg hook kick and back hand punch.


Exercises

In the exercises, the students take turns each doing three kicks. If the attacking student does a back-leg kick, then the defending student does a step back. If the attacking student does a sliding kick, then the defending student does a slide back.

  1. Back-leg front kick; back-leg front kick; sliding front kick.

  2. Sliding roundhouse kick; back-leg roundhouse kick; back-leg roundhouse kick.

  3. Turning side kick; turning side kick; sliding side kick.

  4. Sliding hook kick; turning hook kick; turning hook kick.

End

Attacker does two punches which defender blocks. Then defender does two punches which attacker blocks.
