High Brown Belt techniques and exercises

For the techniques, the attack is a sliding kick while the defense is a back leg kick of the same type followed by a punch (for the side kick and hook kick, the defender uses a turning kick instead of regular back leg kick).

Techniques

After each set, the attacker will have to jump switch before both students proceed to the next set.

  1. Attack: Sliding front kick
Defense: Slide back and low block.
Counter-attack: Back leg front kick and back hand punch

  2. Attack: Sliding roundhouse kick
Defense: Slide back and double forearm block
Counter-attack: Back leg roundhouse kick and back hand punch

  3. Attack: Sliding side kick
Defense: Slide back and low sweeping block to the side
Counter-attack: Turning side kick and back hand punch

  4. Attack: Sliding hook kick
    Defense: Slide back and duck
Counter-attack: Turning hook kick and punch

Exercises

In the exercises, the students switch roles very fluidly. For that reason, they are now referred to as Student #1 and Student #2 instead of Attacker and Defender. Student #1 is the student who made the first attack during the Techniques.

  1. Student #1 attacks with a sliding front kick; Student #2 slides back and blocks with a low block.

  2. Student #2 attacks with a back leg front kick; Student #1 slides back and blocks with a low block.

  3. Student #2 attacks with a sliding front kick; Student #1 slides back and blocks with a low block.

  4. Student #1 attacks with a back leg front kick; Student #2 slides back and blocks with a low block.

  5. Student #1 attacks with a sliding front kick (this is now a different leg than for the attack in Step 1); Student #2 slides back and blocks with a low block.

  6. Student #2 attacks with a back leg front kick (this is now a different leg than for the attack in Step 2); Student #1 slides back and blocks with a low block.

  7. Student #2 attacks with a sliding front kick; Student #1 slides back and blocks with a low block.

  8. Student #1 attacks with a back leg front kick; Student #2 slides back and blocks with a low block.

At this point, the students run through the same series again with roundhouse kicks. They also run through the same series with side kicks and hook kicks, but the back leg kicks are replaced with turning kicks.

This means that Student #1 will end on Step 8 with a back leg kick followed by a sliding kick of a different type because they immediately began a new series.

End

Attacker does two punches which defender blocks. Then defender does two punches which attacker blocks.
