Low Blue Belt One-Steps

Similar to the green belt one-steps, these have a different attack each time. The grapple techniques taught here are more advanced.

Attack #1

Grab the defender's shoulder

Defense #1

  1. Grab the attacker's hand with both hands, thumbs on the top of the back of the attacker's hand.

  2. Step across and through so that the defender now has their back to the attacker and the attacker's arm is over the defender's shoulder. Sharply pull down on the attacker's hand to break their arm over the shoulder.

  3. Backwards elbow strike into the solar plexus.

  4. Backwards vertical backfist strike into the face.

Attack #2

Grab both of the defender's wrists

Defense #2

  1. Jerk one hand up and towards the opposite shoulder while twisting in order to break the wrist free of the grab.

  2. Use that same hand to slide down the other arm in a low block motion, scraping the attacker's hand away from that other wrist.

  3. Still using the same hand, horizontal backfist strike to the face.

  4. Use the other hand to deliver a middle punch to the solar plexus.

Attack #3

Grab the defender's shoulder.

Defense #3

  1. Grab the attacker's hand with both hands, thumbs on the top of the back of the attacker's hand.

  2. Step across, forwards and under the attacker's arm, twisting the arm as if trying to drive the attacker's fingers into their own armpit.

  3. Jerk sharply downwards on the arm in order to force the attacker to bend over.

  4. Now that the attacker's head is lowered, kick to the face

Attack #4

Reach out to the defender's throat (the defense will occur before the attacker can actually make contact).

Defense #4

  1. Circle block to deflect the attacker's hands to one side.

  2. Ridge hand strike with the other hand in order to drive the attacker's head down.

  3. Now that the attacker's head is lowered, roundhouse kick to the head.​

Attack #5

From behind, wrap one arm around the defender's neck so that their chin is in the crook of the elbow.

Defense #5

  1. Grab the attacker's elbow with both hands and jerk sharply downward to free up some breathing room.

  2. Stomp in the same direction as attacker's arm (i.e. if they are attacking with the right arm, stomp on their right foot).

  3. Backwards elbow with the opposite hand (i.e. if they are attacking with the right arm, elbow backwards with the left arm).

  4. Grab the attacker's hand with both hands, placing the thumbs on the back of their hand.

  5. Step backwards while lifting up and sharply pulling down while also twisting the hand in a similar fashion to Defense #3.

  6. Now that the attacker's head is lowered, roundhouse kick to the head.
