High Blue Belt Techniques and Exercises

For the first two techniques, the defender will step at an angle to the attacker's open side (similarly to the latter half of the high green belt techniques). For the third and fourth techniques, the defender will slide to the attacker's back side.

Techniques

After each set, the defender will have to move back in line and the attacker will have to jump switch before both students proceed to the next set.

  1. Attack: Sliding front kick
    Defense: Step back and out 45º to the attacker's open side
    Counter-attack: Back hand punch

  2. Attack: Sliding roundhouse kick
    Defense: Step back and out 45º to the attacker's open side, double forearm block
    Counter-attack: Front leg front kick and back hand punch

  3. Attack: Sliding side kick
    Defense: Slide to the attacker's back side
    Counter-attack: Front leg outside crescent kick and back hand punch

  4. Attack: Sliding hook kick
    Defense: Slide to the attacker's back side
    Counter-attack: Front leg hook kick and back hand punch


Exercises

Each set consists of two different kicks in a row before the students switch roles.

  1. Attack: Back leg front kick; back leg roundhouse kick
    Defense: Step back, low block; step back, double forearm block

  2. Attack: Back leg side kick; turning side kick
    Defense: Step back, sweeping low block; step back, sweeping block

  3. Attack: Inside crescent kick; turning hook kick
    Defense: Step back, duck; step back, duck

  4. Attack: Sliding front kick; sliding roundhouse kick
    Defense: Slide back, low block; slide back, double forearm block

  5. Attack: Sliding side kick; sliding hook kick
    Defense: Slide back, sweeping low block; slide back, duck


End

Attacker does two punches which defender blocks. Then defender does two punches which attacker blocks.
