Dan-Gun

Dan-Gun was the legendary founder and first king of Gojoseon, the first Korean kingdom. He is said to have founded the kingdom in 2,333 BCE.

This form introduces students to the "Capital I formation" that is typical of most Taekwondo forms for color belt. Unlike in most other forms, all punches are done to face level.


Start in standard parallel ready position.

  1. Step with the left foot into a left back stance facing West. Double knife-hand guarding block. Kihap.

  2. Step forward into right front stance. High punch with right hand.

  3. Pick up right foot and rotate clockwise into right back stance facing East. Double knife-hand guarding block.

  4. Step forward into left front stance. High punch with left hand.

  5. Step with left foot into left front stance facing North. Low block with left hand.

  6. Step forward into right front stance. High punch with right hand.

  7. Step forward into left front stance. High punch with left hand.

  8. Step forward into right front stance. High punch with right hand. Kihap.

  9. Pick up left foot (the back foot) and rotate counterclockwise into left back stance facing East. Twin out-forearm block.

  10. Step forward into right front stance. High punch with right hand.

  11. Pick up right foot and rotate clockwise into right back stance facing West. Twin out-forearm block.

  12. Step forward into left front stance. High punch with left hand.

  13. Step with left foot into left front stance facing South. Low block with left hand.

  14. Without moving the feet, high block with left hand. (Perform 13-14 in one smooth motion)

  15. Step forward into right front stance facing South. High block with right hand.

  16. Step forward into left front stance facing South. High block with left hand.

  17. Step forward into right front stance facing South. High block with right hand. Kihap.

  18. Pick up left foot (the back foot) and rotate counterclockwise into left back stance facing West.  Knife-hand strike with left hand.

  19. Step forward into right front stance facing West. High punch with right hand.

  20. Pick up right foot and rotate clockwise into right back stance facing East. Knife-hand strike with right hand.

  21. Step forward into left front stance facing Eeast. High punch with left hand. Kihap.
