High Red Belt Techniques and Exercises

“Open” means both partners have mirrored stances (e.g. if one partner is in left stance, the other is in right stance)

“Closed” means both partners have the same foot forward (e.g. both have right foot forward).

Stepping “outside” means stepping toward the attacker’s back.

Stepping “inside” means stepping toward the attacker’s front.

Techniques

Both partners begin in closed stance. Attacker performs the attacking technique. Defender performs the defense and then the counter. The attack is a back leg kick, then a sliding kick with an opportunity for the defense to counter after each.

Exercises

Begins immediately after the end of Techniques. Attacks for each kick alternate between either two back leg kicks followed by sliding kick or two sliding kicks followed by a back leg kick. Defense slides or steps back according to the attack

Front Kick: Sliding, back leg, back leg

Roundhouse Kick: Back leg, back leg, sliding

Side Kick: Sliding, turning back leg, turning back leg

Hook Kick: Turning back leg, turning back leg, sliding
